If you love the look of clean edges but lack the funds for custom cornices, you can still have a beautiful window without any soft goods at all by painting the window’s mullions, frame and sill instead of dressing it with curtains. Any DIYer with a steady hand and some masking tape can paint a window, and the color possibilities are endless. Try a bold pop of color to highlight the view, but for best resale value, choose a dark brown or black color for a chic look.
Create a formal conversation area as your living room’s centerpiece to warm up the space and make it a place that you will enjoy entertaining guests. Use four armchairs arranged around a light glass coffee table and add some delicate décor, such as a vase or a stack of coffee table books. To create a rich, warm ambiance, use large comfortable leather arm chairs and place a wood table between them. If you’d like to create even more seating, try arranging two different sets of arm chairs on opposite ends of a long coffee table and then situating a sofa along the length of the coffee table.
The living room is often the first room that visitors see when they walk through your front door, and the space sets the tone for how guests feel about the rest of your home. Your living room is also a place for entertaining friends and relaxing with family and its design should reflect that.
Consider the cushions. Most cushions have a core of polyurethane foam; the denser the foam, the heavier it is and the longer it will last. In the cheapest furniture, the cushion is filled with just the polyurethane foam core. In better furniture the core is wrapped with Dacron batting. Higher-quality options include poly-down cushions, which have down mixed with the batting; spring-down cushions, which feature a core of springs surrounded by foam and feathers; and all down, which is all feathers (and all work, so avoid this unless you have servants).
